Antique Thai Brass Ladle with Deity Figure Handle – Nickendorf, Thailand

A Rare Piece of Southeast Asian Artisan Craftsmanship

This exquisite antique brass ladle is a testament to the extraordinary metalworking tradition of Thailand. Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, it combines functional design with ceremonial-quality artistry — making it a highly desirable collector's piece for lovers of Asian antiques, vintage kitchenware, and decorative metalwork.

The Handle — A Work of Art

The handle is a masterpiece in itself. The upper section features a large cast brass plaque bearing a finely detailed relief of a Hindu-Buddhist deity — depicted in a classic pose, adorned with a crown, jewellery, and ornate garments, flanked by mythological creatures. The intricate casting captures every subtle detail of the figure's expression and costume with remarkable precision.

The midsection of the handle is crafted from deep burgundy-toned hardwood, smooth and polished with age, providing a warm contrast to the gleaming brass. The wood is bracketed top and bottom by ornately engraved brass collars, each bearing traditional decorative motifs.

On the reverse of the brass plaque, an embossed maker's mark reads: "Thailand – Nickendorf" — a hallmark associated with high-quality Thai brass export goods, likely produced for the premium souvenir and collector market.

The Bowl

The round ladle bowl is hand-formed from solid brass, displaying the characteristic warm golden patina that only decades of authentic age can produce. Minor surface wear, natural oxidation marks, and gentle hammering traces are all present — confirming the genuine antique nature of this piece and adding to its character and authenticity.
